I just got off YouTube watching Elizabeth Gilbert talk. It is an old interview from when her book “Big Magic” was released.
Big Magic, is the most beautiful and magical book I have read. As a writer, that book spoke to my soul. I bought that book during a vacation and couldn’t keep it down. I woke up before everyone else to get through few magical pages of that book.
As I was listening to her today, those same feelings came back. Her voice, perspective, love for her craft, and outlook towards life made me feel calm from within.
This article is an amalgamation of her magic and how my life resonates with it.
Pick Your Delusion
If you’re going to live your life based on delusions (and you are, because we all do), then why not at least select a delusion that is helpful? -Elizabeth Gilbert
I grew up feeling I looked blah. I did fit society’s standard of body shape, but y’all I was brown. I was brown in India (which btw is a shade-of-browns country). Brown wasn’t the color to be. This one aspect made me delude myself into thinking that my looks were not enough.
One fine day I grew up and I felt enough. It changed everything for me.
Did I suddenly turn a shade lighter? Nope.
I look the same. I feel enough. I look at you and you are enough because I feel enough.
If we were meant to look the same, nature would have designed us that way. We are not.
If you look at me and think I am deluded, well it doesn’t matter. I choose my delusion.
Be The Creator
“The work wants to be made, and it wants to be made through you.” -Elizabeth Gilbert
I am going to sound batshit crazy, if not partly crazy with this one.
