How To Do A Handstand?
All of us have those whimsical goals on our lists. Some of our goals are to make us feel good or at times they give us a sense of achievement or appease our wonder.
Being able to do a handstand, was one of them for me.
Picture of a handstand was on my vision board for years. I attempted it a few times inconsistently and got very easily disappointed. However, being able to do a handstand never lost its appeal.
Mid 2020, my brother motivated me to give it a go again.
Here is what I did and it worked.
Look up videos to understand the basics of what it entails to do a handstand. Professionals will point out the tips and tricks for us to be able to try a handstand safely.
These videos not only provided inputs but also made the wow factor go up a notch. It motivated me even further.
Just Do It.
Really. Sounds like a cliche.Watching and reading about it will not make you inverted.
Sound advice my brother gave: Do it 3 times a day. Just 3 times.
I didn't plan it into my calendar or prep. I simply followed his advice.
I got up and attempted it 3 times. Anytime. I did not follow a set pattern.
For days I felt like I will never be able to do it. I did not seem to be making much progress.
I recorded my attempts. After a few days it seemed like one leg was going higher. Few days later one leg touched the wall. Oh The Euphoria of it!!!
Then one fine day just like that I was inverted. But it was not “just like that”.
I consistently attempted it minimum 3 times everyday. That was my criteria. If I attempted more, great. But 3 times had to be done.
Consistency paid off.
The sense of achievement was worth it.
How long will it take?
I took a month.
My brother needed 15 days.
My friend did it in the first try.
Go Figure by doing it.
